Red is considered the first color that humans mastered. Red was the color of life, a source of light and heat, fire and blood. Although fire is not technically red, fire was perceived as a living being and was an early object of worship. Fire can be destructive, but sometimes, fire can be fertile, regenerative or purifying. This portrait of a woman portrays a sense of inner strength and fire composed against the sky while absorbing the warmth of the sun.
